Lebanon Prepares UN Complaint Over Israeli Spraying of Toxic Substances

(MENAFN) Lebanon has begun documenting what it describes as Israel’s spraying of “toxic substances” over farmland in several southern villages, as it prepares to file a complaint with the UN Security Council, the country’s foreign ministry said Wednesday.

The ministry stated that it has started recording incidents in which Israeli aircraft allegedly sprayed toxic chemicals and pesticides across agricultural land and orchards in multiple villages.

Under the guidance of the president, Lebanon plans to coordinate with its ministries of environment, agriculture, and health to compile a detailed legal dossier documenting “serious violations” committed by Israel. The file will identify the nature of the substances used and determine whether they violate international law by cross-referencing them with lists of prohibited materials under relevant treaties and conventions.

The documentation will also cover affected areas and assess the resulting damage, including impacts on humans, soil, vegetation, and water resources. Once completed, Lebanon intends to submit an official complaint against Israel to the UN Security Council.

Earlier Wednesday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the spraying, calling it a blatant violation of sovereignty and an environmental and public health crime.

The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said on Monday that the Israeli army had notified it of planned aerial activity to release what Israel described as a “non-toxic chemical substance” near the Blue Line.
