Gaza Bleeds: Death Toll from Israeli Strikes Surges Past 72,000

(MENAFN) Gaza's casualty figures have climbed to 72,027 fatalities and 171,651 injured since hostilities erupted on October 7, 2023, health officials in the Palestinian enclave reported Saturday.

Authorities released a press briefing confirming that 174 deaths recorded between January 30 and February 6 were officially added to the tally after receiving approval from the designated governmental oversight committee.

Since a ceasefire took hold on October 10, an additional 576 Palestinians have been killed with 1,543 sustaining injuries, officials disclosed.

In a separate announcement, health administrators warned that Gaza's few operational medical centers—barely maintaining basic services—have devolved into crowded waiting areas for thousands of patients. Countless wounded individuals now confront uncertain medical outcomes.

Daily healthcare provision has become a battle for survival amid the conflict, drastically obstructing patient recovery and the restoration of specialized treatment programs, authorities stated.

Officials sounded alarm bells that standard pain medication has transformed into a scarce commodity. Current shortages have depleted 46 percent of critical pharmaceuticals, 66 percent of medical equipment, and 84 percent of laboratory and blood bank resources.

Cancer therapy, blood disorder treatment, surgical procedures, critical care units, and foundational health services rank among the most devastated sectors, with available inventory falling catastrophically short of patient needs, the statement concluded.
