Lebanon Reports Hundreds Killed as Israel-Lebanon Truce Faces Continued Violence

(MENAFN) Israeli strikes have continued in southern Lebanon amid escalating cross-border tensions and ongoing clashes linked to the ceasefire agreement, according to reports.

According to Lebanese authorities, hundreds of people have been killed since the truce came into effect in mid-April, with officials describing continued military activity as a violation of the intended cessation of hostilities.

Reports indicate that Israeli forces carried out air and artillery strikes in southern areas ahead of planned diplomatic discussions involving both sides in Washington. The strikes reportedly targeted locations in regions where cross-border exchanges with Hezbollah forces have persisted.

Lebanese health officials said that emergency responders were among those affected in recent incidents, including a strike that hit a civil defense team responding to an earlier attack, resulting in additional casualties, according to reports.

The Lebanese government has condemned the ongoing violence, arguing that it represents a continued disregard for international norms and humanitarian protections in conflict zones.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has warned of continued resistance and rejected calls to disarm the group, while maintaining that its military capabilities remain outside the scope of negotiations, according to reports.

According to Lebanese officials, total casualties since the ceasefire have included both civilians and combatants, with women and children among those reported killed or injured during the period.

Humanitarian organizations have also raised concerns about the impact of continued violence on civilians, particularly children, warning that repeated strikes are undermining the stability and effectiveness of the ceasefire arrangement.

According to reports, both sides continue to accuse each other of violations, leaving the truce under increasing strain as diplomatic efforts attempt to prevent further escalation.
