Israel Airstrikes Murder Twenty-Two in Lebanon as Ceasefire Strain Continues

(MENAFN) Airstrikes carried out by Israel have killed at least 22 people, including children, across multiple locations in Lebanon, according to reports citing the Lebanese health ministry.

Officials said the strikes hit several areas in the south and east of the country, with multiple vehicles and residential zones affected in separate incidents. Among the reported fatalities were children killed in attacks on villages and vehicles along major roads south of the capital.

According to reports, additional strikes targeted cars on highways linking Beirut to southern Lebanon, as well as areas near coastal towns, causing further casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.

Lebanese authorities said the attacks formed part of a broader wave of airstrikes affecting dozens of locations, amid continued tensions despite a ceasefire arrangement linked to earlier US-mediated negotiations.

According to reports, more than 400 people have been killed in Lebanon since the ceasefire was announced, with ongoing hostilities continuing to undermine the agreement’s stability.

The head of Lebanon’s National Council for Scientific Research, Chadi Abdallah, said that thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed since the ceasefire began, contributing to a growing humanitarian and reconstruction crisis.

Officials have described the situation as highly unstable, with repeated incidents of violence continuing along border and southern regions.

According to reports, the ceasefire framework allows for military action in cases of perceived imminent threats, a provision that both sides have referenced amid ongoing exchanges of fire.

The situation remains volatile as diplomatic efforts continue alongside sustained military activity, raising concerns over the durability of the current truce arrangement.
