Israel Strikes South Lebanon Despite Deal; Toll Hits 4,386
Warplanes hit the town of Kfar Tebnit in the Nabatieh district, Lebanon’s state news agency reported. In the Tyre district, jets struck Mansouri, and artillery shells slammed into Majdal Zoun, the news agency said.
Overnight, the zone between Mayfadoun and Zawtar al-Sharqiyah came under heavy, sustained Israeli artillery bombardment.
The strikes land as Israel’s offensive against Lebanon, launched on March 2, continues to claim lives. The assault has killed 4,386 people and wounded 12,413, according to the latest tally from Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
On June 26, Beirut and Tel Aviv signed the US-brokered framework in Washington. It calls for a phased Israeli pullback from Lebanese territory and for the Lebanese army to deploy in areas Israeli forces vacate.
Despite the agreement, the Israeli army has kept up its attacks and still occupies parts of Lebanon, including land it has held for decades and areas seized during recent wars and military operations.
